22/06/2006 Renzo Piano wins with First Q Italy
  Torino - The project presented by Renzo Piano has been selected for the new building of the Banco San Paolo in Turin. This new landmark of Turin will have a built area of 50,000 sqm and will cost 120 million Euros. It will house the corporate center of the Group, offices for around 2.000 people and services for customers.

First Q´s company in Italy - Manens Intertecnica- is part of Renzo Piano´s team, as Engineering Consultants in charge of the design of the building services.

The competition saw the participation of other great names of contemporary architecture such as Hiroshi Hara, Dominique Perrault, Carlos Lamela, Daniel Libeskind and Mvrdv.

01/02/2006 Luis Malheiro in ASHRAE
  Luis Malheiro, Chairman of the Board of LMSA, has recently assumed the presidency of the Board of Governors of the Portugal Chapter of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers).

This chapter, with 51 members, is the third in Sub-region B (Continental Europe) and the 13 th in the Region-at-Large (RAL).

Last June, the chartering ceremony took place in Lisbon , with the presence of the Presidential Member Ron Vallort and RAL Sub-region B Chairman Costas Balaras.

  First Q Ltd ISO 9001 : 2000 certification was extended until January 2009, following Lloyds Quality Assurance audit performed in February 2006.

The surveillance audit performed in February 2007 confirmed First Q´s compliance to the norm´s requirements.

17/10/2005 First Q works with Fuel Cells in Italy
  First Q company in Italy, Manens, has been appointed for the design of an electrical energy production plant using a Hydrogen Fuel Cell.

The plant has a demonstrative scope and is integrated with the ´traditional´ engineering systems for a complex of buildings which will house offices for the Public Administration.

The installation will consist of a Natural Gas fuelled Molten Carbonates fuel cell able to produce 250 ± 10 kW low tension electrical energy and 200 kW of thermal energy at 180°C.

The electrical energy will supply the building network in low tension whereas the thermal energy will be used to run a two-stage absorption chiller for the production of cooling water at 6-12°C.

01/07/2005 EDCM expands their services into hotel, residential and leisure projects
  EDCM have recently completed the purchase of a new headquarters building in Wakefield which is currently undergoing refurbishment and fit out. In Birmingham , EDCM will be relocating into new, larger premises during July 2005.

EDCM are now designing the first 5 projects of a UK roll-out hotel program for a major hotel operator. Another 45 sites are scheduled over the next 3 years with EDCM playing a major role in developing and integrating the M&E services into the modular construction techniques.

In the education sector, work is in-hand on the new £35M Macclesfield Learning Zone where EDCM are applying a low energy sustainable design.

  A building, that will be one of the most photographed in the area, is now ready in the very centre of Helsinki . Architects Helin & Co won the general, open, international and dual-phase contest arranged by The Finnish Association of Architects. 157 proposals took part in the contest.

Demand Based Air Conditioning
The extension of the parliament house is connected to the Helsinki Vesi water and waste water networks. The rain waters are soaked to the site according to the building plan provision. The building is also connected to the Helsinki Energy district heating and to the district cooling networks.   This year there has been some interest concerning Private Finance Initiative schemes in Greece for large infrastructure projects. So far three major BOT projects are in various pre-tender or tender stages, with a few more in the pipeline, which have not been announced yet. Many international design and construction firms are participating in the tenders, and Tebeka which is Greece ´s First-Q branch, has been in the picture for tenders in all three projects. These are Thessaloniki Immersed Tunnel, Maliakos-Kleidi Motorway and Thessaloniki Metro.

Manens has participated, as an exhibitor, at the first edition of EXPO ITALIA REAL ESTATE, held in the new Milan Fair from 29 th March to 2 nd April 2005.

"Expo Italia Real Estate" was described by the organisers as ´an event within an event´ because it was the first trade fair of its kind in Italy and it coincided with the inauguration of the Nuova Fiera di Milano (New Milan Trade Fair Centre) within which the event was held. The aim of this EXPO is to play a significant role in the new Italian Real Estate Market and impose itself as a meeting point for all the leading Real Estate actors.

  For the Forum Barcelona 2004, the city wanted to recover one of its last undeveloped areas. After the remodeling of “Poble Nou”, as a residential area for the competitors 1992 Olympic games, Barcelona considered the city-planning reform of the North coastal area next to the outlet of the Besos estuary, that delimits Barcelona with Sant Adrià del Besos.

The whole area was reorganised and developed with cultural, administrative and residential buildings for the Forum 2004 under the condition that they would have a use afterwards.

01/07/2005 Sweden - SISU is contracted for the Eolshäll project
  Sisu Stockholm has been awarded a contract for the design of the Eolshäll project. This high-end residential development, to be built in Stockholm , will consist of 60 apartments.

The project has the peculiarity that it will be built on the top of an old water depuration station. The architectural solution will make use of this volume, for the underground car parking and eventually a SPA.
